3/4/09

Yesterday I was just crusing along at work when a friend walked into my office and announced "She's here!"

Who is here you ask? Remember Princess, the chihuahua I agreed to take...almost 2 months ago? Yeah, she finally showed up yesterday.

Quick recap. A woman here in Small Town, MT went to Idaho to put her mom into a nursing home. The mom had a 12 year old chihuhua. Daughter and son-in-law did not want the dog and decided to either take her to the dog pound and if they wouldn't take her, they were going to put her down. Daughter was telling a friend about this and the friend (who knows my friend) told her to wait, because she knew of this lady who rescued chihuhuas. I agreed to take the dog and expected her in a few days. Then mom took a turn for the worse and ended up in the hospital. Then she got better. I never heard another word from them and assumed mom was able to keep her dog.

Until yesterday.

I am the first to admit that I'm a bit of a doggy fanatic. I recognize that I'm becoming the Robyn A. of Chihuahuas. I always say I'm going to find these animals another home. Then I take one look at them and I'm hooked.

Let me tell you, the daughter and son-in-law are VERY lucky that they weren't the ones to bring Princess to me. She was FILTHY and half-starved. Literally...her back side is half the size of her rib cage. She has no teeth, so instead of feeding her CANNED dog food, they were feeding her instant mashed potatoes!

I bathed her and finally got her to eat. Bill keeps looking at her and saying "Poor little grandma."

She's very lovey and gets along ok with the other pets. She's so tiny (she weighs 3.5 lbs) and like I said, she has no teeth, so her tongue hangs out of her mouth. She's quite funny looking...so ugly she's cute!

So we'll take her to the vet for a check up (she came without any vaccination records) and fatten her up. Then we'll make sure her final years are happy.

Then she won't be "poor little grandma" anymore.
