My last name is...unique. The few of you who know it, I'll tell you that if you EVER meet anyone with the same last name...we are related.
I tell you that, to tell you this.
Yesterday a new sub came into my office. I was going through the paperwork with him, when he picked up my name plate. "Carolyn Last Name." I know this name. I just saw it. I smiled and waited for him to tell me that he'd met Bill.
Then he said "I saw this on the back window of a car. It said "In memory of Jeffrey Last Name. It was very said because this Jeffrey died when he was 21."
Shock went through my body. I had forgotten that a few of Jeffrey's friends had those stickers on their cars.
I managed to smile and say "That's my son."
I got through it. I shared a little bit about Jeff and showed the man a photo of him.
This is such a small town. I can't tell you how often things like this happen.
After Shelby lost her license, she went to the DMV to get a new one. The woman who waited on her said "Do you remember me? I was at your brother's funeral."
Is there a lesson in this entry? YES.
Please...think before you speak. Surviving loved ones will bring up their loss if they're comfortable doing so. We are rarely comfortable if someone else does it.
Especially a stranger.
