Yesterday seemed doomed from the moment I walked into work.
1. We had almost 2000 ballots that had to be mailed for a levy election. Our postage machine was NOT working. The AP person and I (somehow mail has become our duty...I'm not sure how) spent an hour unplugging this, resetting that, waiting for customer service to answer our call (they never did) and suddenly for no apparent reason, the mail machine started working again.
2. MH's first words to me were "What are you doing here?" Ummmm...I work here? She likes to be at work before me and stay later than me. It's one of her "things." Since I'm a morning person, I often get there before her. Yesterday, she decided to be annoyed by it.
3. While on a walk with the school psycologist (I'm not going to pretend that I know how to spell it) he told me that I have two strong traits of schizophrenia. Lovely. This would be why I don't normally hang out with him.
4. MH stayed crabby all day. I finally figured out it was because the district clerk talked to her about her daughter coming in EVERY day, SEVERAL times a day and doing/saying inappropriate things while the rest of us are trying to work. Her daughter is in her 30's. MH is in her 50's. They both should have figured it out without having to be told.
5. The MOTHER of a substitute called to complain about her son's check. "You took taxes out of his check! I know he's NEVER filled out a W-4 with you!" Ummm...sorry, he came in on the 4th of June and picked up. He brought it back (with the rest of the payroll packet) on the 5th. We don't pay ANYONE unless we have a W-4. It was a seriously weird phone call.
Then the day got better.
Unfortunately by then it was 4pm. I scooted out of there a half hour early and came home to an EMPTY house.
I cleaned a bit here and there. I played with my dogs. I took Princess outside to play. It was lovely.
The lovely kept coming.
M. (our new teenage daughter) works for D@iry Queen. Their freezer broke and several boxes of Dilly B@rs were too melted to sell. She called Shelby to come get them. SCORE! I have 9 boxes of various flavors of them in my freezer. They've melted and refroze (is that a word?) but are still yummy. I'm not a huge fan of ice cream, but I do love me a Dilly B@r.
Regardless of how it begins, any day that ends with 9 boxes of free ice cream bars in your freezer...is a good day!
