"Eat the crust first." What this means to me is "do the worst part first, get it over with." These are words of wisdom that I try to live by. I admit though, being a procrastinator at heart...I am very good at ignoring my own good advice.
I have a drawer in my desk at work. This is where I put things I don't have time (or want) to deal with. Yesterday I opened the drawer. I took EVERYTHING out. I divided it all into little piles and worked my way through each pile. It was not fun. That's how things end up in the drawer. I know they won't be fun to take care of. But I know where they are if I need them.
Normally, I am constantly interrupted at work. Phone calls; employees coming to my desk for something; friends wanting to chat.
I managed to spend almost 2 hours cleaning out this drawer. I had NOT ONE interruption. It was like a force field had been put up around my desk.
Now the drawer is empty and squeaky clean. My filing is up to about 2 inches tall. My shredding box is overflowing. But that damn drawer is empty.
Until the next school year begins.
