When my Grama lived with us, I used to watch the tv show The King of Queens. Mostly because their struggles with the father on the show reminded me of our struggles with Grama. It helped me to keep my sense of humor about the situation.
One of my favorite episodes had the following scene:
The husband and wife are sitting on the couch. He's eating a container of pudding. He's REALLY getting into the process. As the pudding cup becomes empty, his motions slow down and he starts to look unhappy. He says to his wife "I always get sad when I get to the bottom of the cup." She tells him he can have her pudding. He picks it up and begins his happy pudding eating process again. When he gets to the bottom of the cup, he looks at his wife and says "I'm getting sad again."
I've seen this episode at least a dozen times, and it always makes me laugh out loud. It's such a simplistic, yet very realistic description of life.
When I woke up Thursday, I had plenty of pudding. I ate and ate and never got near the bottom of the cup. I had so much fun shopping and spending time at the pond.
On Friday I didn't do quite as much as the day before. I cleaned the inside of my car (whoo hoo!) Shelby & I went to the local co-op with a gift certificate. We blew it on fun foods like brie, hummus, homemade pitas and bread and sea salt & cracked pepper kettle chips. Our budget rarely has $$ in it for things like this, so each and every one is a real treat.
Yesterday was Small Town's Crazy Days. Our downtown is a whopping one block long. The city blocked it off and it was full of booths. Flea market type booths. Lots of junk. A few treasures. I bought a dress. It's from a pair of overalls that had been cut and made into a dress. A 12 inch bottom was sewn from an old table cloth. I love it! Shelby wrinkled her nose at it. Cool, I won't have to worry about her "borrowing" it.
At another booth, they were practically giving their stuff away. It was for a local senior center. They'd received about 10 times as many donations as they'd expected and didn't want to haul it all back. For $5, I got a waffle iron (I've ALWAYS wanted one) and for the girls I found a curling iron with attachments for straightening, crimping, and putting in spiral curls. I also got two HUGE comforters.
I'm always on the lookout for warm blankets. We use them in the trailer and just to snuggle with during the winter. It's not uncommon to see Shelby, M and I all sitting on the couch watching a movie, each of us wrapped up in our own blanket.
Today...I feel like my spoon hit the bottom of my pudding cup. My treat is almost over.
It's supposed to be sunny and hot. I'm planning to get my few chores out of the way and then head back to the pond for more reading and people watching.
My last bite of pudding will be as sweet and satisfying as the last.
And thus ends the worst analogy ever created. ;o)
