I spent a lot of time on the phone this week, calling new employees to come in and fill out paperwork.
One of the elementary principals neglected to tell his new employees to come in to see me. At least he very consistently forgot to tell EVERY SINGLE ONE, so whenever I see a hire sheet with his name on it, I know to call. ;o) (Really though, when you begin a new job, don't you EXPECT to fill out some paperwork? Do people REALLY think they're going just to magically get a paycheck? Apparently they do.)
Shelby and I worked as sub custodians at the high school Thursday and Friday evenings. Working together, it only took us about 2 hours to finish. All we had to do was empty the trash, wipe down the desks and dustmop the floors of 10 classroom. Oh and clean one set of the boys and girls bathrooms. (eww)
The head custodian at the HS is one of my favorite people in the world. When he asked if we could help (Shelby worked as a sub custodian for a summer) I immediately said ok.
We had so much fun! We chatted and giggled non-stop while we were working. The time FLEW by. The only hard part was when we had to empty the large garbage can into the outside dumpster. The garbage can is almost as tall as me. The lip of the dumpster is a few inches above my head. I'm sure we looked quite comical trying to get the bag all the way out of the can and into the dumpster. We managed to do it 4 times and never dumped anything on our heads! Ok, one timed I rolled the garbage can wheels over Shelby's foot. She forgave me.
It's a good way for her (and me) to make some extra money. She can't work alone, because she's underage and a student. It's not too physically hard (although my back is a bit unhappy with me this morning) and since it only takes a few hours, it doesn't affect her school work.
The best part is that we get to hang out together, uninterrupted, for that time. We used to hang out all the time. Now that she's a teenager with a vehicle, friends and a boyfriend, it's hard to find time for each other.
We have always had fun together. Getting paid to hang out and have fun together...Score!
