11/3/09

I've been busy being miserable with the Swine Flu. I knew I would get it. Too many people around me got it, for me not too. Sometimes there just aren't enough antibacterial wipes.

I did manage to celebrate Shelby's 18th Birthday on Friday. I don't have the words to express how I feel about my baby becoming an adult. As she does with most things in her life, she greeted this milestone with grace and joy. She had a few friends over for dinner and cake and then they hit the streets to do...18 year old stuff.

Saturday was pretty busy. I know now that this was day 2 of the flu. The problem with having 24/7 allergies, is it takes a few days for me to realize that I'm sick. Shelby, M and their friends went to two Halloween parties. I had so much fun helping them get ready.

Sunday was C R A P. I slept and complained about my aches and pains, most of the day. About 3am Monday morning I woke up with the chills and a temp. Later Bill had me call the urgent care. They are still not seeing people with swine flu, they're diagnosing it over the phone.

Bill followed their advice and wiped down everything with a solution of bleach water. Then he changed our sheets (ah...there is nothing better than nice clean sheets.) We soaked our toothbrushes in hydrogen peroxide.

The urgent care told me to take 2 tylenol and then 2 ibuprofen two hours later. And so on and so on. I was so miserable, I can't imagine how badly I'd have felt without dousing myself with tylenol and ibuprofen.

They also suggested that I drink LOTS of power ade. I'm not a fan of those drinks, so I just kept drinking water. Today I finally drank one, and lo and behold, I feel better. I guess that's why they go to medical school and I didn't.

I can't quite get my temp down to normal. It never got all the way to 101, but won't go below 99.

I'm trying not to think of all the work that must be piling on my desk. But so long as I am sleeping a good part of the day, I'll stay home.

Take care.
